About the Bible

The Bible is a collection of books that has stories and insights into the relationship and experience that people had with God over two thousand years. It contains a rich variety of genres including literature, poetry, history and wisdom which are understood as divinely inspired scripture. As scripture the Bible’s teaching and stories are believed to contain deep truth which continues to nourish people’s lives and relationship to God.

A good way to start reading any one of the books within the Bible is to ask questions such as who wrote it? when was it written, who was it written for? what is it about? Equipped with such insights the Bible can both shed light on faith in the past and give faith perspectives for today.

In our Reformed tradition our worship is fed by the Bible with a Bible reading(s) and a reflection on the passage in each service. St Andrew’s also has an open fortnightly Bible study group.
